COMMUNITY STAFF back to the index

District nurses provide care for the housebound and terminally ill. They are led by Sister Goodings and can be contacted on 01939 261373 (be prepared to leave a message on their answering machine).

Our health visitors are Gina Miles and Chris Myhill. They deal with immunisations, child health problems and perform developmental checks on pre-school children. They can advise on feeding, sleeping etc and offer general support to new mothers.

They can be contacted on 01939 261348 (answering machine).

The midwife sees antenatal patients at the surgery on Friday mornings; she also performs antenatal checks at patients homes, and visits new babies and their mothers in the first 10 days. She can be contacted via the hospital (01743 261000 - ask for “community midwives").

Chiropodists visit the surgery on Mondays and some Tuesdays. They offer general foot care and assessment, especially in older patients and diabetics. We do not arrange appointments for the chiropodist, these are arranged by the Shropshire Community NHS Trust (01743 492247).

A counsellor holds weekly sessions at the Surgery.

Phlebotomy - blood tests are taken by doctors and nurses as required and a Phlebotomist from Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on Tuesday mornings.

CLINICS back to the index

We have dedicated clinics for asthma/chest, diabetes, ante natal and child health development. Details can be provided on request.

Cervical smears are usually performed by the practice nurses. Coil fittings are performed in the practice by Dr Tiley and Dr Brodie-Fraser.

We also perform a wide variety of minor surgical procedures in the practice. You will need an appointment to see one of the partners prior to minor surgery being performed.

APPOINTMENTS back to the index

Patients are seen by appointment only. If you wish to book an appointment please phone 01939 260210 or call into the surgery. All Doctor's appointments are 10 minutes. To help us keep to time please only book one appointment per person and arrive on time.

If you need to cancel an appointment please try to give as much notice as possible. We have a branch surgery once a week at Bomere Heath. This has restricted facilities and only a very limited service can be offered.

TELEPHONE ADVICE back to the index

If you require phone advice, please phone the practice and leave your contact details with the receptionists. A doctor will contact you when available.

HOME VISITS back to the index

Home visits can be arranged for those who are housebound due to illness. Most problems can be dealt with sooner and more efficiently if you attend the surgery. Home visit requests should be made by 10:30am.

EMERGENCIES back to the index

There is always a doctor available to deal with emergency problems.

If you consider a problem to be life threatening you should dial 999.

Evening and weekend cover is arranged for us by Shropshire County PCT. If you need medical attention outside surgery hours, please ring the surgery in the first instance. You will hear a recorded message giving the telephone number for the out-of-hours service.

When you ring the out-of-hours service your details will be taken by a call handler. A nurse or doctor will then phone you back. All calls are recorded. Your problem may be dealt with over the phone or you may be offered an appointment with a doctor, or a doctor may visit you.

DISPENSING back to the index

We dispense medication to most of our patients. Medicines prescribed during a consultation can usually be collected straight away. We are only allowed to dispense medicines if you pay the full prescription charge or give proof of exemption from charges. The prescription charge is set by the government, not the practice.
